Customer Choice Information for Members

What is Customer Choice?

Customer Choice is a program established by the Maryland legislature and the Maryland Public Service Commission under which utility customers, including Choptank Electric members, have the option to choose a third-party electric supplier. Currently, all of Choptank Electric’s power is supplied by Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC). ODEC is a generation and transmission cooperative which is owned by Choptank Electric Cooperative and ten other regional electric distribution cooperatives.

How does Customer Choice affect my bill?

ODEC’s portion of your bill can be seen on the right side of your bill, also known as the Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate. Choptank Electric will always retain the left side of your bill which includes distribution and maintenance of your electric infrastructure even if you select a third party supplier. Choptank Electric recommends that members research options before choosing a new supplier, and verify the company is licensed by the Maryland Public Service Commission and registered with Choptank Electric.
