Youth Tour: June 16-20, 2025
Take advantage of a fun week in Washington, D.C. at Choptank Electric Cooperative’s Youth Tour
Choptank Electric Cooperative is now accepting applications for its annual Youth Tour program in Washington, D.C. from June 16-20, 2025. Join more than 1,800 students from across America who take part in the all-expenses-paid Youth Tour experience each year!
Choptank Electric members in their junior or senior year of high school are encouraged to apply for this national leadership experience. Five students will be selected to attend Youth Tour as delegates from high schools in Choptank Electric's service territory in the nine counties of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Delegates will spend the week networking with young leaders from all over the United States, meeting with your U.S. Representatives and Senators, learning about the cooperative business model and exploring our Nation's Capital. From baseball games and museums to pep rallies and dance parties, students get to experience so much fun and learning in one week! Bottom line, you will make friendships that will last a lifetime and be part of a dynamic group of leaders that has more than 50,000 alumni in every walk of life.
All transportation, meals, hotel, admissions fees, etc. during Youth Tour are paid for by Choptank Electric. The Cooperative will chaperone its selected students throughout the entire trip. The program is coordinated by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).
An element of the Youth Tour program is the Youth Leadership Council (YLC). During Youth Tour, one student from each state is selected to serve on NRECA’s Youth Leadership Council as the state rep for the year. The Maryland YLC rep will meet with the other state reps to learn more about the electric cooperative model, deliver a 5-7 minute speech to their cooperative and peers about what inspired them during Youth Tour, NRECA’s Annual Meeting in the Spring of the following year and work with their local cooperative on a small community project in the fall. This is a great opportunity to boost your resume and expand your knowledge and network!
Completed Youth Tour applications must be submitted by January 31 at 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact McKayla Kiernan at communications@choptankelectric.coop or 1-877-892-0001.
