GET OUT THERE!
(If you want to.)
By Bobby Schaller, Multimedia Manager
There is something about summertime that makes folks want to get out there and explore. Luckily, our service territory is chock-full of natural beauty, fun activities and history unique to the Eastern Shore. These two pages highlight a few of the wonderful places of our homeland for the adventurous at heart.
Blackwater National
Wildlife Refuge
Say hello to the baby ospreys we're raising. Sike, we are not raising any baby ospreys but we do provide power to their webcam which you can view for free here: https://www.friendsofblackwater.org/camhtm.html
I wonder if they're fiber members too?
It’s not unusual to find yourself up close and personal with a great blue heron or countless other beautiful species of waterfowl at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Dorchester County. www.fws.gov/refuge/blackwater
Assateague National Seashore
A curious sika fawn checks out camping guests at Assateague National Seashore’s state park. www.nps.gov/asis
Heavy summer vibes abound at the Assateague camp grounds ☮︎
The Little Red Schoolhouse
Built in 1860, this one room schoolhouse, known as the Little Red School House, in Talbot County stands as it did when it was first built. Tours are available upon request.
Pocomoke River State Park
It’s easy to get out there and find peace and quiet while taking in all that the Pocomoke River State Park has to offer. The Pocomoke River runs south from the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware for 60 miles until meeting up with the Chesapeake Bay. Local folklore has it that parts of the Pocomoke are so deep that it has no bottom, pretty neat.
