How does the program work?

Based on your audit results, your home may qualify for one of three upgrade tiers:

Basic weatherization - Immediate impact measures, like whole-house air sealing, duct sealing, smart thermostats or an HVAC tune-up

Deeper energy savings - More complex improvements, like dense-packed fiberglass installation or belly wrap repair

System replacements - Upgraded or installed HVAC systems, including air-source heat pumps and mini-splits

Frequently Asked Questions

In a no-cost home energy audit, one of our participating contractors visits your home and finds ways to improve energy efficiency. They may install energy-saving measures like door sweeps, weather stripping or smart thermostats. They’ll also provide a personalized report to help you save even more.

  1. Be a Choptank Electric Cooperative residential member with an active account.
  2. Own or rent a manufactured home in the service territory. A “manufactured home” is considered one that is built in a factory, on a permanent chassis, transportable in one or more sections and used as single-family dwelling and that can be sited with or without a permanent foundation.
  3. Have a working central air conditioner, heat pump or other primary electric heating/cooling system.
  4. First undergo a no-cost home energy audit from a program participating contractor, including installation of eligible measures. Members are eligible for one no-cost home energy audit per address and account number every five years.

Your no-cost home energy audit, and any further improvements you may qualify for, must be performed by a program-authorized contractor. Participating contractors include:

Services are provided to eligible residential members at no cost through a program-authorized contractor. These may include a no-cost home energy audit, recommendations for upgrades, installation of upgrades, parts and services. Eligible members must work with a program-authorized contractor to receive no-cost upgrades.

Given fund limitations, program participation is available to members in the Choptank Electric Cooperative service territory on a first-come, first-served basis.

Commercial properties are not eligible for this program. Existing residential homes only; residential homes that are currently in the construction phase are not eligible. Homes without a resident living in the dwelling are not eligible.

Homes with serious health and safety issues are not eligible for this program, including (but not limited to) carbon monoxide, asbestos, mold and lead. Any health and safety issues identified during your required no-cost home energy audit must be remediated before our authorized contractor begins work on program upgrades.

By improving energy efficiency in homes throughout our area, this program seeks to improve regional energy reliability, reduce stress on our shared infrastructure and increase overall regional economic stability.
