As technology and equipment becomes more advanced, Choptank Electric Cooperative is always weighing what equipment will benefit our membership the most. This fall, the Cooperative purchased a UTV International track machine which will allow our crews to accomplish projects despite severe weather and provide access to tough spots where normal equipment cannot reach. Because the track machine combines the capability of a digger derrick and an insulated aerial bucket truck, it’s more efficient and can reduce the amount of service interruptions for routine maintenance. It’s also capable of carrying poles and other heavy equipment to job sites, where previously, it may have been dragged or carried by our crews.
It's first job occurred in Westover, MD near the Big Annemessex River, where our crews used it to install regulators. In these marsh areas, the water reaches higher than normal and the ground is soft, which can cause our heavy bucket trucks to sink. This machine offers easier mobility and additional safety for our crews. We look forward to utilizing this equipment for many years to come.
