Vets Power Our Community
By Mike Malandro, President & CEO
May is Military Appreciation Month. At Choptank Electric Cooperative, we are grateful to have active military and veterans on staff and are proud to serve them and their families. As a veteran of the U.S. Army and the West Virginia Army National Guard, I understand the sacrifices these men and women have made for our country and the unwavering dedication they have to serve. Our mission as a Cooperative is to serve our local community and put our members first every day. This commitment to our members is similar to the sense of duty and responsibility that veterans experience in the military. Our lineworkers, engineers, system control operators and essential field staff work 24/7 to keep your electricity on and, in turn, protect the safety and reliability of your home and family.
Choptank Electric Cooperative is proud to support the national Vets Power Us program, through which we have pledged to employ and honor veterans and their families. With 12 current active military or veteran employees, we continue to provide the resources and time that is required for these staff to serve our country. More than 40% of veterans are from rural communities, and we are working to ensure that these brave men and women have access to career opportunities in the electric utility industry. I hope you will join me in sharing your gratitude and appreciation to our community’s military and veterans for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for our great nation.
