Transforming the Workforce Through the Power of Apprenticeship
Choptank Electric Cooperative has signed the Governor’s Apprenticeship Pledge, championed by Gov. Wes Moore, to grow Maryland’s workforce through the power of registered apprenticeship. The apprentice lineman program at Choptank Electric provides on-the-job training with four years of hands-on work, preparing linemen to advance in their career and become Journeymen.
“This pledge reflects our dedication to investing in our talent at the Co-op and in Maryland’s future,” shared Mike Malandro, President and CEO of Choptank Electric Cooperative. Choptank also recognizes the power of apprenticeships through their creation of and partnership in the Powerline Worker Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Wor-Wic Community College, preparing students to be an apprentice in the power line utility industry.
Over the next year, Choptank Electric will work with the Maryland Department of Labor to expand the Co-op’s Registered Apprenticeship Program as part of the talent pipeline strategy. Learn more about the pledge:
