Charge Up With Power Player Barbie Faulkner Employee Spotlight

How does your job fit into the overall Cooperative business?

For the past 10 years, I have served as the Manager of Accounting at the Cooperative’s headquarters in Denton, MD. I lead the Accounting Department, which is comprised of myself, three Staff Accountants, and three Office Specialists. Together, our team manages the financial transactions of the Cooperative, including billing, payment processing, accounts payable, capital credits, banking, and monthly financial reporting.

What is the most rewarding experience you have had in your job?

Back in 2012, when I had been with the Cooperative for about six months, Hurricane Sandy hit our service territory and caused major power outages. Cooperatives from other states came into our area to help in restoration efforts. During this time, many employees were assigned to district offices to provide support and my primary task was to make sure the crews in our St. Michaels territory were fed! We all had one goal — getting the lights back on for our members. This is when I realized the true meaning of a cooperative.

What do you like best about your job?

The best part of my job are the people I get to share my day with, especially my accounting team. The Cooperative truly has a workforce that works together to serve the membership. Additionally, work-life balance is especially important to me, and the Cooperative has provided the balance I need. I feel fortunate to work for a great organization that is close to home.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I have been married to my husband Joey for 20 years. We have two children, Brady (17) and Gracie (14). Between work, school, and sports, our family life is always busy. When we are not on the go, I enjoy brunch and bonfires with friends and spending time with family.
