Celebrating CEO Mike Wheatley' 26 Year Career

For many employees, the image of our cooperative is the one shaped by Michael I. Wheatley, or Mike as he prefers to be addressed. The current CEO, who will be retiring on March 31 after 26 years of service, was hired in 1993 as a Financial & Administrative Service Coordinator. While his expertise in Accounting was what got him hired, many will say its his people skills that ultimately afforded him the title of CEO.

After 9 years of learning the ropes of the co-op world as Financial & Administrative Service Coordinator, Wheatley skyrocketed through the positions of VP of Corporate Services (2002), Senior Vice President of Corporate Services (2005), and finally arriving at his current position of CEO on 2011. An impressive journey no doubt.

Employees, board members, and members alike thank him for his strong leadership which saw the cooperative from the beginnings of fax technology, to modern investments in lineman safety, transmission infrastructure, and expanding broadband availability in the Eastern Shore. While we are sad to see him step down, as a cooperative we are delighted to wish him a happy retirement!
